Students in Sarah Huber's poetry class at the Project for Alternative Learning (PAL) were inspired enough to come up with these poems.
‘The Secret of a Poem’
by Ashley Steed
What a creative
Thought
Lots of
Writing and description
Inspirational sounds
And voice
Stanzas that rhyme
What a beautiful
Vision of art.
‘Some cookies’
by Kevin Ritchson
If I could only have something I want badly
I couldn’t possibly choose right
I mean, if I could have anything
In the whole world
I could have some of the greatest treasures ever
Or all of them
In the end
I can’t keep any of it
Doesn’t matter who you are
Although...
Some cookies would be nice.
‘lost nut’
by Jay Watson
I sit here on this lovely sunny day
I notice a peanut shell in front of me
just laying there in the grass, alone.
Peanut shell alone in the grass
Once a has been
Once a great yummy nut
Once in a bag, NOT alone
But now useless
in the grass.
‘The Sound’
by Phoenix Richards
Scribbling on my paper
I want to stay
In the dark all alone
Where I’m falling off the brink
Drowning...
In my words.
‘Carbon Copy’
by Steffi McGraw
Hidden in the tree,
You don’t see me.
I see you, living your life alone.
We are the same, one person.
Two separate lives, one emotion.
‘Storm’
by Britt Fillippini
It was the beginning of November
The sun was going down
You could feel the tension rise
Dad calls a family meeting
My anger builds from earlier that day
I want to be far away
He thinks he can control me
We go at it
He threatens me
I tell him to do it
I wish, pray, and hope that I can disappear
The fight is over
I go on with my day
Feeling new hurt and hatred.
‘America’
by Justin Wittenberg
All these laws
In the government
The people are elected to represent us
We call it democracy.
The president supposedly has control
Our law enforcement
How do they expect the people to obey
When the ones in power can’t?
They break the constitution
They they wrote themselves
Twist and bend and warp
To get what everyone wants
The American Dream.
When a government is so corrupt
Running on greed, oil and drugs
It’s not what it was supposed to be
The “land of the free”
supposed to be equal
But
some are born into it
And others never have a chance.
In the near future we shall be branded
like animals
Nothing free
If America keeps forward
With our corrupt democracy.
