Three local kids won the top three awards in the 10th annual “Adopt a Species” art contest sponsored jointly by the Montana Wildlife Federation, Montana Department of Fish, Wildlife & Parks, Helena National Forest, Montana Discovery Foundation and the Foundation for Animals. The theme this year was “Montana: My Big Backyard.”
Meg Giddings, a 5th grader at Broadwater Elementary School, won first place for her busy beavers sketch. Kaitlin Martin, a 4th grader at Montana City School, took second place for her black bears, and Alyssa Steward, a 3rd grader at Kessler School, was awarded third place for her otters.
“We received some really neat artwork this year, and the students enjoy drawing some of their favorite Montana critters,” said Liz Burke, education specialist for the Helena National Forest.
The top three artworks will be auctioned off on Saturday, April 22, at the Montana Wildlife Federation’s 71st annual fundraising banquet at the Red Lion Colonial Hotel. The live auction starts at 7:30 p.m. and is open to the public. For more information, call 1-800-517-7256 or visit www.montanawildlife.com.
